This laboratory will use the model system zebrafish to understand the mechanisms that guide cancer progression. The major focus will be determining how angiogenesis, the formation of blood vessels from pre-existing blood vessels, proceeds during tumor development and contributes to metastasis. For this, cutting-edge genome editing techniques will be performed by students to target genes in zebrafish. Students will be exposed to bioinformatics and DNA sequence analysis, molecular biology techniques, the nature of mutations, and understanding phenotypes in developmental biology.
